How To Point Domain Name From Namecheap To Cloudways

One of the most common blogging tip you may hear in blogosphere is hosting your website domain at two different places and that is completely true.

Let’s say if your website is hosted on CloudWays , BlueHost or WP engine it is ideal to have the domain hosted on NameCheap or GoDaddy.

If you have blog hosting with Cloudways and Namecheap as domain registrar and you want to set your blog with them then this post is just for you.

Since Cloudways doesn’t have it’s own name servers as default and is a cloud based hosting, sometimes it’s not easy for newbies to point their domain name to Cloudways.

That is why you need your domain registrar’s (eg. Namecheap, Godaddy ..) DNS management tool to point your site to your Cloudways server.

In this post I will explain that. (WITH PICTURES)

How to transfer domain from Namecheap to Cloudways hosting:

First off all, we just need 2 things from Cloudways.

  • Public IP
  • Server address

You can obtain both by logging into Cloudways then click on “WWW” from your installed application, in our case it is WordPress.

On “Access detail” tab you can find your public IP which kinda looks like 123.456.67.891. This is also your FTP username. Here you can also find your FTP user and password and also your WordPress login creditials.

Then click on “domain management” tab. Here you will find your server address which should look something like this:
WordPress-01632-93872-283827.cloudwaysapps.com

Now we are done with Cloudways server details now let’s move on to domain transfer part of Namecheap.

PART – 2

Since I assume you already have an account with Namecheap, login to your Namecheap account then click on “domain list” and select your desire domain then click on manage.

Then go to “Advanced DNS” tab from drop down menu and then “Add New Record”. Here you need to create a host record using your previous Cloudways server details.

You just need to create 2 fields naming one to CNAME (your server address) and other to A record (your IP address). The Host field of A record will be “@” and CNAME record will be “www” .

The final result will look like this.

And that’s it your domain name has been pointed to cloudways & now your WordPress website is running on Cloudways’s powerful managed cloud platform.

Please note: it will take some time for properly DNS propagate so don’t be panic.

If you have addon domains I suggest you keep park them in Namecheap & change your name server whenever you want to your desired hosting.

Hopefully, this guide will help you to know how to point domains to Cloudways server from Namecheap.

I’ll do a cloudways hosting review soon for people who can’t decide to go for Cloudways hosting is a right choice for them or not.
